Well, more like “The New iPad is here!”
Got my new iPad, and I must say this thing is gorgeous! This iPad was well worth the wait. While I am used to using devices like my laptop, desktop, and iPhone I have been using this new iPad nonstop since I picked it up. I am happy to report everything went without a hitch when I picked it up from the Apple Store. Having pre-ordered when it became available online, I simply walked in bright and early at around 10:15 AM after the stores had opened… and I was able to simply tell the Apple employee that I had a pick-up order….. was immediately directed to the pick-up counter at the back area of the store- and collected my iPad without any hassle. Though I do have to say I did check several times to make sure that this was actually the new iPad, as it gives no description as such on the box- simply saying ‘iPad’ nothing like NEW iPad. Oh yeah, and I did have to clarify with the Apple employee that I was picking up the NEW iPad… i.e. third-generation…. and not simply an iPad, which is something confusing with not calling it iPad 3 and just simply iPad. But hey that’s what Apple wanted to do, and I got my new iPad…. i.e. third-generation…. so I am not complaining.
Perhaps I should give credit to Apple for possibly learning from the last release of the iPad, which turned out to be a debacle in my humble opinion (Because they were only selling them at 5 PM on that infamous Friday no less), in that this time they were selling them right off the bat when the stores opened. This allowed those like me who had per-ordered, or were simply coming early to get their hands on the new iPad, to acquire it unfettered and without aforementioned debacles that occurred with the previous release of the iPad 2. I guess Apple was more intuitive this time around.
But suffice it to say I for one am sooooooooo very pleased with this version of the iPad! For those who have an iPad 2, it perhaps was a wise thing just to wait… but for one such as myself that had never had one thus far, this was definitely the one to wait for and get. It is without a doubt simply… Gorgeous! Everything about the retina display is true. It is crisp, clean, and by far one of the best looking screen displays I have seen. Obviously if you do not have a tablet yet, or are debating as to which one to get, I for one can say without a doubt this new iPad is well worth getting your hands on. Naysayers, doubters, and haters…. ignore them all. This version is definitely worth the hype. (Though I will say there are definitely some features that I believe Apple should’ve included… Siri, being one of the obvious… I can see it being possible to include as an update later on, if that is possible or on the agenda but no deal breaker). But with each new App I am discovering, they almost seem to take the place of many of the things I would want to include. (more on those later)
But the aforementioned is of course just my humble opinion, and seeing as how I am currently dictating this all with the new Dictation software that Apple provided in this version- there is little complaint from me. Although Dictation is not perfect and does make mistakes as to what to type, as far as what is allegedly spoken…and what is typed/output- this is no different than using software such as Dragon when performing dictation to create text. It is all just a small learning curve really, for the user that is, and getting used to speaking as in dictation over typing things… and the ‘Mini-Siri’ we might call it, may get more used to us- just as we get used to it. And it is not unlike the hassles that one has to deal with when the AutoCorrect adjusts what you’re typing when text messaging and inputs something that you ordinarily would never say, never want to say, or shouldn’t say! And most times those are sent before they are even caught!!!
The speed of the A5X chip is blazingly fast, just as denoted by Apple. Of course, I really don’t have the full 14 gigs used up quite yet, and I’m only about 5/8th’s perhaps filled of the available memory with the new apps I have downloaded (which I am finding I am downloading constantly with all of the new apps that are out there or that I have discovered). But suffice it to say it is performing beautifully, even after downloading so many apps, and all of my purchases from the iTunes store that I previously had… mostly music or albums and such. Which brings me to mentioning that the loading of music and movies is so fast you don’t even see that dreaded buffering pop up which occurs in watching media on other platforms or devices. Press play- it plays. No wait, no buffer…. just click and watch. Blissful!
The new iPad is a bit heftier and weighted, but not really any more noticeable than the previous iPad 2 which I was able to temporarily play with, or was it really performing IT support ( assisting my father with his iPad set-ups or misconfigurations- just teasing dad, you do quite well with your technology know how for the most part )… and I for one can ‘suffer’ a few ounces of weight when it forms this beautifully.
I am sure to have much more to say about the new iPad, as far as my personal opinions of devices, software’s, performance, Apps, details etc. etc. etc., but will most likely save that for future posts. Suffice it to say I for one am extremely happy with this new tablet. iExcited! It really is incredible so far and I for one am loving the new iPad.
